Andrea offers Registered Clinical Counselling for individuals and counselling for couples/relationships
The greatest change that happened in my life, was when I realised I was a person who is constantly in process, for whom change is inevitable.
Once I realised this, I felt an enormous curiosity to learn more about who I was becoming in each moment, as well as, find space to decide how I wanted to show up for myself and others.
It’s my goal to create the conditions necessary for clients to experience the same, and not only begin to feel better about themselves and their lives, but also find the joy!
Common counselling concerns, focuses & clients I love supporting:
Self criticism
Self awareness
Self esteem
Authentic Self Expression
Personal Development
Attachment Styles and Patterns
Managing life transitions and stressors
Grief and loss
Couples and / or Relationship work
Communication
Healing trauma
Identity Exploration
Neurodivergent Folks
Educators
Those who have experienced immigration
Folks who grew up in a family affected by addiction/s / domestic violence
People who enjoy / benefit from visuals and metaphor
A Bit About Me as A Counsellor
While relationships can be some of the most fulfilling aspects of our lives, they can also be confusing, complicated and very challenging to navigate especially on our own. Perhaps you’re someone who knows lots of people, has friends, spends time with family but for some reason still feels lonely even in the company of others. Or maybe you are quite socially isolated, perhaps new in town, or confined by your situation in life and are finding it hard to make some meaningful connections. Or maybe you enjoy good relationships when things are going well but just struggle to connect or be vulnerable when you’re having a hard time. Sometimes, people have been terribly hurt in relationships and are scared to open themselves up again. While our relationships can be one the most fulfilling things in life, they can also be incredibly hard to navigate, especially when we’re trying to figure it out just on our own.
I specialize in helping individual clients to understand themselves in relationship to themselves as well as others. Sometimes this means helping clients to better understand what their lives have currently taught them about relationships and how this impacts their patterns of relating in the present. Sometimes this involves exploring a deeper sense of who they are now, and how they want to connect to themselves and others. Sometimes this means experimenting with different ways of communicating needs and working through conflict both within themselves and with others.
I also work with couples who are encountering challenges with communication, conflict, intimacy, finding meaning or shared goals, creating or regaining trust, or just really understanding other’s perspectives. Often the biggest benefit to couples therapy comes from setting aside time to really slow things down and take pause from all the ‘doing’ that’s involved in day to day life, to explore what it means to really ‘be’ with each other. How well are you able to understand each other? How well do you know your partner’s perspective on things and what’s important to them? How can you communicate in ways that help you both to feel really heard, understood and connected? How can you navigate conflict in ways that allows you both be healthily differentiated individuals, while also supporting each other in life?
