SELF WORTH & SELF ESTEEM

Are you your own worst critic? Do you hold yourself back from sharing how you feel or what you need form others? Maybe you find yourself constantly feeling ‘not good enough’ and or like you need to prove your value or worth to others. Perhaps you spend valuable time and energy comparing yourself to others, feeling jealous, doubting yourself and wondering if you are worthy of the life you are striving for or that you already have.

Or maybe for you, it’s more that you’ve tried to become the person your family, society, colleagues or peer group thinks you should be. You might feel like you’re constantly wearing a mask, or putting on a front and are aware of a little voice of doubt inside that challenges your ability to trust your own instincts and decisions. You want to be who you ‘really are’, but aren’t even sure who that is, and are worried what that might do to your relationships.

In counselling, we will work together to address issues related to low self-worth you may experience, such as:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Body dissatisfaction or disordered eating

  • Difficulty trusting self and expressing authenticity

  • Feeling stuck or lost personally or professionally

We will also address challenges that often show up in relationships with others, including:

  • Challenges drawing boundaries

  • Difficulty expressing wants and needs

  • Feeling stuck or trapped in harmful or unsatisfying relationships

  • Challenges expressing authentic self, or feeling like you have to ‘hide’ who you are

Finally we will also explore and work to heal the root causes of low self-esteem and self-worth, which can often be related to:

  • Physical trauma

  • Family of origin issues

  • Interpersonal or relational trauma

  •  Bullying in childhood or adolescence

  • Messages internalized from social media or social dialogue/norms

Regardless of the origin, we will work together to leave you feeling more self-aware, compassionate and worthy. We hope to guide you toward feeling more confident in your instincts, values and abilities as well as more at ease being your authentic self.
