Integrated Counselling and Yoga for Individuals:

80 minute individual sessions include:

30 minutes of yoga and/or mindfulness meditation
followed by
50 minutes of individual counselling

Counselling and Yoga is currently offered by: Morgan, Mercedes & Donna (online)

Prior to your regular counselling session, you will be guided through a custom yoga and/or mindfulness meditation session of 30 minutes. These practices are a powerful way to build resilience, awareness and self-compassion.

While counselling is a wonderful way to combine the wisdom and knowledge of mind, heart and body, yoga and mindfulness provides you with the unique opportunity to dive deeper into the experience of your body alone.

These practices have the power to enhance your counselling experience and over time often results in a greater sense of calm or ease into your daily life.

What is Mindfulness? How exactly does it help?

Mindful Yoga for Trauma and Mental Health

Mindfulness IS:

The practice of paying attention to any aspect of our experience in the following ways: intentionally, non-judgementally, and in the present moment… which is not always as easy as it sounds!

Practicing mindfulness-based yoga and meditation is a wonderful way for you to begin a counselling session feeling relaxed, grounded and clear, while building body-awareness and mindfulness skills.

These skills will transfer into our counselling sessions, as body awareness and mindfulness skills assist with uncovering patterns and processing trauma, as well as creating curiosity, compassion and tolerance of uncomfortable and difficult emotions.

I will assist you in learning how to develop and practice strategies involving movement, breath, and mindful awareness to address both physical (i.e. shallow breathing) and cognitive responses (i.e. constant rumination) to emotional distress. These practices are particularly powerful for trauma survivors, offering a way to begin re-connecting to and reclaiming their own bodies, which is often severed following a traumatic event.

Who does yoga work for? Do I have to be flexible?

As these sessions are customized for each individual, yoga is appropriate almost all youth and adults. Yoga will be designed with your counselling goals in mind, and take into account most injuries, chronic tension or pain you experience. Please contact me to explore what this portion of our session might look like for you.
